Mischief Night and anti-social behaviour awareness Mischief Night - the evening before Bonfire Night on 5 November - is traditionally an exciting time for young people. However, it can also bring an increase in anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, and nuisance incidents within our communities. We are urging parents, guardians, and carers to speak with their children about making safe and responsible choices and to be aware of where they are spending their time. Key advice for parents, guardians, and carers… • Know where your children are and who they are with • Encourage young people to respect their local community and neighbours • Remind children that criminal damage, vandalism, egg throwing, fireworks misuse, and other anti-social behaviour can have serious consequences • Set clear expectations about behaviour and agree a suitable time for them to return home • Discuss the dangers of carrying or misusing fireworks and other items that could cause injury or damage • Encourage children to take part in positive activities and spend time responsibly with friends • Report any concerns about vulnerable young people who may be at risk of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour How to report issues… In an emergency, or if a crime is taking place, always call 999. For non-emergency incidents, contact police via: • 101 • The force website's online reporting portal Report anti-social behaviour to your local council where appropriate. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their website. Working together… We want everyone to enjoy the seasonal celebrations safely and respectfully. By working together as parents, residents, schools, community groups, and local agencies, we can help reduce anti-social behaviour and keep our neighbourhoods safe for everyone. If you witness anti-social behaviour or criminal damage, please report it. Your information helps us identify problem areas and take positive action to protect our communities. | ||
