Super Tornado Two strikes: 24 hours of action tackling serious and organised crime across North Yorkshire 👇 

Yesterday, you may have noticed a significant increase in police activity across York and North Yorkshire.

In fact, we’ve been inundated with people asking us what was happening and why there were so many of us out and about.

Well, this is why.

Over the 24-hour period 8am / 8am - 64 arrests were made, 14 warrants executed, four wanted people located, six weapons seized as well as 14 vehicles and £3,750 in cash was recovered.

Significant quantities of drugs were also seized, including a cannabis cultivation in Northallerton with an estimated street value of around £1 million.

As part of activity targeting organised immigration crime, officers and partners visited 12 high street premises, with the activity resulting in the closure of one premises in York linked to the sale of illegal tobacco. During these visits £1,280 was seized as suspected Proceeds of Crime from a nail bar. 13,000 illegal cigarettes were also seized.

In another first for us, Live Facial Recognition was deployed in York, generating 12 positive matches. This led to one arrest, eight people subject to Sexual Harm Prevention Orders being stopped and checked, and engagement with two people linked to intelligence alerts. Officers also spoke with the public about the technology and how it was being used.

And while Super Tornado Two brought all of this activity together over 24 hours, it bolsters the work our officers and staff are doing every single day to tackle crime and keep York and North Yorkshire safe.
