Illegal Surron e-bike seized in Pickering! |
||
|
Last night, Ryedale Neighbourhood Policing Team responded to multiple reports of youths riding two Surron e-bikes at extreme speeds on public roads in the Pickering area. This report matched several other similar reports that we had received over previous weeks. Incidents of this nature pose a significant risk to both those riding these types of bikes and the public. It is also illegal to ride many types of e-bike or e-scooter on public land. Following an area search, some of the youths involved were identified and one of the Surron bikes was located. As a result of this being used illegally, the e-bike was seized, and the rider may now face prosecution for several offences. Ryedale Neighbourhood Policing Team are aware that there are potentially other youths around Pickering that may own Surron bikes or other types of illegal e-bike or scooter. We will be working proactively to identify these individuals, to offer advice on their lawful use. Should any other e-bikes or e-scooters be witnessed being used illegally on public land, North Yorkshire Police will continue to seize these, to ensure the safety of all our residents. We urge all parents to familiarise themselves with the relevant legislation concerning the use of e-scooters and e-bikes, to ensure their children are both safe and lawful.
