Residential Burglaries Reported in Nidderdale Area

North Yorkshire Police is investigating three residential burglaries reported on the morning of Thursday 3 September 2026 in the Pateley Bridge, Dacre Banks and Summerbridge areas.

In each incident, offenders are believed to have gained entry to residential properties during the early hours of the morning while occupants were inside. Items reported stolen include vehicle keys, jewellery, tools and, in one case, a motor vehicle.

Officers have attended each location and enquiries are ongoing. These investigations remain in their early stages.

We understand that reports of this nature can cause concern within our communities. We would like to reassure residents that incidents such as these are rare, particularly within our rural villages and communities. Importantly, no physical injuries were sustained by any of the occupants, and our officers are working diligently to establish the circumstances and identify those responsible.

While we appreciate that many residents already take steps to protect their homes, these incidents serve as a timely reminder to review home security arrangements:

🔒 Keep doors and windows locked, even when at home and particularly overnight.

🔑 Do not leave vehicle keys, house keys, handbags or valuables visible or easily accessible, especially near doors, windows or hallways.

🚗 Consider storing vehicle keys away from view and, where possible, use a signal-blocking pouch for keyless entry vehicles.

💡 Ensure external lighting and security systems are working correctly.

📹 Check any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell camera footage which may have captured suspicious persons or vehicles in your area during the early hours of this morning.

👀 Remain vigilant and report suspicious activity promptly.

We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen suspicious individuals, vehicles or unusual activity in the Pateley Bridge, Dacre Banks or Summerbridge areas during the overnight period and early hours of 3 September.
