🚨 Rogue Traders Warning - Harrogate Area 🚨

We have recently received reports of suspected rogue traders operating in the Harrogate area.

These individuals may attend your address unannounced and claim that urgent repairs or maintenance work is required. They often focus on parts of a property that are difficult for homeowners to inspect themselves, such as roofs, chimneys, guttering or other high level structures. In some cases, they may use scare tactics, claiming that immediate work is needed to prevent serious damage.

Unfortunately, elderly and vulnerable residents are often targeted.

 Our advice:

• Be wary of anyone who cold calls at your door offering building or maintenance work.

• Never feel pressured into agreeing to work on the spot.

• Obtain at least three quotes from reputable, established tradespeople.

• Ask for identification and independently verify any company details provided.

• If work is suggested on a roof, chimney or other hard to see area, seek a second opinion from a trusted specialist.

• Avoid paying large sums of money upfront.

• If something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts and close the door.

If you have elderly relatives, friends or neighbours, please take a few moments to discuss rogue trader scams with them and encourage them to be cautious of unexpected callers.

If you believe rogue traders are operating in your area, report it to North Yorkshire Police. If a crime is in progress or there is an immediate risk to someone, call 999.
