Proactive two-wheel safety campaign launched across North Yorkshire From Monday 1 June until Sunday 14 June, we will be supporting the NPCC's national Two Wheel campaign. This initiative is aimed at educating and improving the safety of motorcyclists and pedal cyclists on the county’s roads. North Yorkshire is the biggest geographical county in the country and we have a vast network of roads to police, as well as having many areas of natural beauty which attract visitors from far and wide, as well as being home to our communities. We will be at key locations across North Yorkshire, focusing on reducing collisions and promoting safer riding standards among all two-wheel road users. Many collisions occur because riders are less visible and more vulnerable, particularly at junctions, during overtaking manoeuvres, and on rural roads. Drivers are encouraged to take extra care by looking twice at junctions, allowing greater space when overtaking, and anticipating the speed and positioning of motorcycles. Our utmost priority is the safety of everyone on our roads, which is why dangerous or antisocial driving/riding that puts people at risk will not be tolerated within North Yorkshire, and any offences identified will be dealt with appropriately. PC Mark Hutchings, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: "Our two-wheel operation is about making North Yorkshire’s roads safer for everyone. "Motorcyclists, cyclists, and e-bike riders are among the most vulnerable road users, and we want to ensure they have the knowledge and support to stay safe. "While the majority of riders act responsibly, we will take robust action where we identify dangerous or illegal behaviour. | ||
