Good Afternoon,
Today you may have seen a car driving at speed through Leyburn town centre, heading in the direction of Bedale.
At roughly 09:50 hours, your Richmondshire neighbourhood officers were on mobile patrol in Leyburn when their attention has been brough to an Audi A4 in Black travelling on the high street towards the market place. Officers have run the vehicle through and been informed it was registered and insured to a female, however there was a male in the driver’s seat. As officers have gone and turned on the vehicle, they have seen it doing a loop around the market place and head towards the Harmby road, with the officers hot on their tail with the intention of pulling it over, they have then made off from officers, at speed towards the general direction of Harmby.
Officers have quickly made other units aware, and our Neighbourhood support unit and road policing unit, have made their way to the area. The vehicle was later spotted on the A684, by an unmarked NSU unit, who put gave timely and concise updates on the vehicle’s location, so other units could get ahead with a stinger. The vehicle was successfully stung, and deflating two tyres, outside Bedale sports Centre, and the driver and front seat detained. It was established the driver was driving whilst disqualified, driving with no insurance, and blew 30 on a roadside breath test! The vehicle was seized for no insurance, and the driver was interviewed at roadside by officers, after which the males had time to reflect on their actions by having a long walk back to Durham.
