90 illegal firearms surrendered during amnesty |

90 illegal firearms surrendered during amnestyFollowing last month's national firearms amnesty, we saw 25 Bruni top-venting blank firearms (TBVF) handed in to our police stations across North Yorkshire. Along with an additional 65 firearms relinquished, that is now 90 potential lethal weapons off of our streets. We want to thank the public for their support and cooperation during this period, as well as their help in making our communities a safer place to live and work in. The following five models were targeted as part of the amnesty: 8mm PAK Bruni BBM Model 92 blank firing self-loading pistol. 8mm PAK Bruni BBM New Police blank firing self-loading pistol. 8mm PAK Bruni BBM Model 96 blank firing self-loading pistol. 8mm PAK Bruni BBM Model ‘GAP’ blank firing self-loading pistol. .380R (9mmK) PAK Bruni BBM ME Ranger single-action blank firing revolver. For those unfamiliar, in their original form, TVBFs have a fully blocked barrel and are designed to discharge only blank cartridges. When discharged, combustion gases vent from the top of the weapon. TVBFs are sold with at least 50 per cent of their visible surface painted a bright colour, however, criminals may paint them black so they look like an original lethal purpose (OLP) weapon as well as convert them to a lethal purpose firearm. They are legal to buy without a license by anyone over 18 in the UK unless they are readily convertible. A single report could prove vital in solving serious crimes, removing illegally-held lethal weapons, or potentially saving a life. Anyone with information about illegal firearms activity should contact North Yorkshire Police by calling 101. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their website.
