Reports of mini quads |
We've received reports from the local community of children riding mini quads in the village.
Mini quads can be powerful machines often seen as toys but classified under law as motor vehicles. Safety for young riders relies on strict supervision, appropriate protective gear, and restricting use to private land.
Legal Requirements (UK & Similar Jurisdictions) No Public Road Use: Mini quads cannot legally be used on public roads, pavements, footpaths, cycle paths, or common land. Private Land Only: They may only be ridden on private land with the express permission of the landowner. Age Restrictions: Many mini-quads are not suitable for children under 12, and some regulations require that vehicles for this age group are speed-restricted to 10-15 mph. Insurance & Registration: If used on a road (only if registered, taxed, and MOT'd), a full license is required. However, most mini quads do not meet these standards and are strictly for off-road use. If you sight a child using a mini quad, please report to us on 101 / 999 or online using the North Yorkshire Police website.
