Community speed watch/parking issues |
Dear Resident,
Following concerns raised by the residents of Spofforth at a recent community drop-in session, the local neighbourhood policing team have been carrying out mobile speed checks and parking enforcement today, 01/02/2026.
Further enforcement activities are planned in the village and surrounding areas, so please be extra vigilant with how and where you park your vehicle. Highway Code Rule 243 advises against parking within 10 metres of a junction (or opposite one) to ensure visibility. This is incredibly important near to the mini roundabout where poor parking is regularly occurring. Section 137 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 makes it an offence to wilfully obstruct free passage on the highway (which includes the road and pavement). Before you park, think 'Can a wheelchair or pushchair get past here, will someone with a guide dog be able to pass safely'. If the answer is no, don't park there! | ||
