Anti-Social Behaviour in Pickering

There has been an increase in anti-social behaviour in Pickering Town Centre over the past few weeks.

Parents – Please be aware of where your children are attending when they are out at night. We have received information that some young people have been out on the streets till past 3am on some occasions throughout May.

You can find information including support for parents and healthy relationships through the NSPCC website here: https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/

Ryedale’s Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) have been responding to calls in relation to youths causing a nuisance across the town.

Inspector Martin Dennison Ryedale’s NPT said “Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. We will look to deal with incidents in a swift and robust manner. If there is a need to use a ‘direction to leave’ dispersal, then we will do so.”

A dispersal can be authorised by an Inspector or above, which allows officers to direct a person over the age of 10 years old, to leave a specific location, for a period, no longer than 48 hours.

Should an officer have reasonable grounds to suspect the person has contributed or is likely to contribute to members of the public being harassed, alarmed or distressed or the occurrence of crime or disorder and that the direction is necessary to remove or reduce the likelihood of the same, then they may be directed to leave the locality.
