It has been a while since I highlighted any issues in relation to drink and drug driving as our campaign over the Christmas and New Year period went extremely well. (The attached photo is not linked to this incident and is for illustration purposes only)

I thought now would be a good time to remind everyone that if you do risk drink or drug driving in Richmondshire, there is still a very good chance you will be stopped and arrested, if over the prescribed limit.

One example of this was on Saturday, when 2 Officers on patrol near Brompton on Swale stopped a motor vehicle due to the manner of driving and the male was found to be twice the legal limit. He was therefore arrested and taken to Harrogate Custody where he was subsequently charged with a number of offences, including drink driving. He will now face a Court appearance, a ban and large fine minimum. This is just one example of several over the last few months, so I just want to make people aware that we do arrest and deal with offenders that are willing to take the risk.

It is simply not worth it, as although we cannot be everywhere, we can be anywhere including the the more remote areas and will also respond to any concerns reported.

If you suspect anyone is drink or drug driving, please do report it via the 101 system, leaving as much information as possible. However, if you see anyone about to drive or you believe is driving under the influence or drugs or drink then, consider the use of the 999 system if appropriate at the time.

I would therefore like to send a very strong personal message out that, Drink and Drug driving will not be tolerated in Richmondshire and is simply not acceptable for any reason.
